Encinitas Communities

Encinitas is an idyllic, harmonious town on the coast in San Diego North County. The town began with what is now called Old Encinitas. It was a beautiful little coastal enclave that brought a smile to anyone’s face who visited. Its beaches and stunning location by the ocean is still a sight for sore eyes. Since its early days as a community, Encinitas has grown, adding the area called New Encinitas. Encinitas real estate, in New Encinitas has more recent, upscale tract homes. It has many luxury and custom homes. Encinitas grew still more after 1986. At that time, it incorporated neighbor towns. These Encinitas communities are unique jewels of their own for Southern California coastal culture and life. There are three of them. They have a life and story all their own.

Encinitas Communities – Cardiff, Leucadia and Olivenhain

Cardiff (also called Cardiff by the Sea) is the southernmost of Encinitas communities. It sits between Old Encinitas and Solana Beach. It still has its own zip code, 92007. Its most coastal section sits west of the I-5. Historic Hwy 101 runs through that section. San Elijo State Beach is off of Hwy 101. It includes paths to the beach and camping spots.  The San Elijo Lagoon is one of Cardiff’s major natural features to the south. Cardiff by the Sea’s ocean side and hillside properties are also major attractions for many.
The community’s history as a surfing hub lives on. Cardiff Reef (“The Reef”) and nearby Pipes are two of the most popular surfing spots in the County. They draw surfers of all skill levels. A flat rock reef exposes a myriad of tide pools when the tide is low. Visitors throng to it regularly.
Leucadia is the northernmost of Encinitas communities. It has an older coastal town vibe. Its many art galleries, small businesses and shops line Hwy 101. Trees line its boulevards. Established and newer homes line its quiet, family-friendly neighborhoods.
Leucadia’s history as a surfing town lives on. It still has that laid back vibe. Both surfing and beach activities, including exclusive, beach side home life gets plenty of interest year round.
Olivenhain is east of New Encinitas. It covers a hilly inland area. It was once the home of German immigrants, hence its name. Later, it was developed with large, spread out homes on plenty of acreage. Olivenhain is the perfect choice for people who love country life. They can have it all, including horses, cool ocean breezes and the Pacific close by.
